How to take care of your car exterior

Performing maintenance on a car is mainly about taking care of the inside components and making sure that the engine runs smoothly. However, that doesn’t mean we should ignore how the car looks like on the outside. It might not be equally important when it comes to engine performance, but having a nice exterior will raise the overall value of your car. There are some simple steps you can take to make your car look like it just came out of a dealership.

Wash your car regularly

Washing the exterior of your car is easy as long as you have the right products for the job. Most importantly, you will need a good car wash soap. Here you can check out the best car wash soap by Noble Rate. Using detergents not made for car cleaning, such as dish soap, can actually damage your car’s paint.

First, use a hose to pre-rinse your car and then start lathering it up using water mixed with car wash soap (you will get the exact measurements from the soap’s label). You can get specialized car wash sponges for this. Rinse the car and then move on to the wheels. After applying the soap to the wheels, wash them with a brush to clean all the crevices. Rinse the whole exterior again, going from top to bottom. Now you need to dry your car and it’s better to do it right away to avoid having water streaks marks appear. Using a microfiber towel or two, dry the whole exterior as much as you can.

It is recommended to wash your car twice a month. Depending on where you live, you might need to do it more often. And if your car gets dirty because you drove through mud accidentally or got bird droppings on it, clean it right away. You can also apply wax to yor car twice a year to further protect its shine from fading.

Protect it from various weather conditions

If your car spends a lot of time outside you should also make sure it’s protected from extreme weather conditions.

Try to park your car in the shade as much as you can. UV rays can damage not only your car exterior but also the plastic components inside, like the dashboard. You should also use some kind of shade protector for your windshield. This will not only prevent sun damage but also keep your car cool inside so that you don’t have to suffer when you get inside.

For winter, use a windshield snow cover. This protective fabric goes on top of your windshield to catch any snow that might fall. It will also prevent, to some degree, ice from forming on the glass surface of your windshield. Scraping that ice in the morning before you go to work is time-consuming and can also scratch the windshield. Furthermore, melting the ice using windshield heating or warm water can even cause the glass to crack from sudden changes in temperature so investing in a windshield snow cover is a good idea if you experience cold temperatures in winter.
