Ink Drawing of a Staff

The ink drawing is Susumu Takiguchi's copy (as in a copy of one of Rembrandt's drawings) of an old Zen ink drawing of a staff.

It is to illustrate the haiku [below] by Takahama Kyoshi (1874 - 1959) which Susumu Takiguchi wrote in calligraphy.

The name at the bottom is Ryuseki (Susumu Takiguchi's haiku name) and the seal which Susumu Takiguchi carved.

Statement by Susumu Takiguchi

This haiku is notoriously difficult to interpret and it seems no definitive interpretation is established yet. To my mind, Kyoshi was probably talking about time when he mentions a stick, which passes through artificial barriers such as a calendar. Also, the word "version" is important as I do not undertake haiku "translation"
